RAF MARHAM FAMILIES DAYThe 25 August 2021 RAF Marham played host to their very own family and friends day. It is one of their most important dates in the calendar so we were very honoured to receive an invitation. What a day it was. Slot times for arrival and departure and although we were probably the slowest Aircraft on the base that day we met our times to the second. All the big players were there, Rolls Royce, Bae Systems and Thales to name but a few. The weather was overcast but that didn't dampen the day. From the moment we arrived at 1040 until we left at 1650 we were entertained and thrilled by all the displaying Aircraft. From the F35 Lightning displaying its aerial caperbilities to our little "Puddle Jumper" on its static display parked along side Aircraft that could outrun it 10 times over. It was like a scene out of the Disney Movie "Planes". "Dipper attracted a lot of attention probably no more and no less than the 100 million dollar machines it was parked next to! The "Reds" finished off the display with yet another exhillerating performance. Thanks RAF Marham, it was a blast!
Sleap Airfield - Pistons & Props WeekendA fabulous day at the Piston & Props fly-in. The weather was perfect for flying and really couldn't of been better. Dipper was given pride of place on the main grass area in-front of the tower. Parked up next to some fabulous aircraft it was great to catch up with so many friends and extraordinary people . In total 163 aircraft visited Sleap and that was just on the Saturday! ATC was excellent as was the organisation of the event. All the lads in operations were exceptional and couldn't of been more helpful. It was certainly one of the best fly-ins I've been to. Well done to all involved.
Dear..........
Thank you for your further email of 5 June regarding easing general aviation restrictions. Hopefully you will have received my email on 11 June that provided an updated position in relation to GA in Wales. I have included a copy of the content of that email below for ease of reference. Further to this, the First Minister has since announced that the Stay Local rule will be lifted on 6 July subject to the evidence still supporting this decision. I hope you find this information of use. Yours sincerely Rhydian Ayres Acting Head of Aviation The Department for Transport (DfT) has issued guidance on recreational aviation confirming that dual and instructional General Aviation flights will be permitted from 4 July 2020 in England. There will continue to be a need for General Aviation organisations to actively mitigate the risk of cross-infection between their staff, customers and other third parties, and to ensure that from 4 July 2020 that a 2 metre distance is maintained where possible. Where this is not possible, to reduce the risk of cross-infection a 1 metre distance should be maintained where possible while taking suitable precautions In addition to the advice that the Government has published (COVID-19 Secure guidelines), we have also published specific advice for flying clubs and schools preparing to return to normal flying operations following the recent restrictions (CAP 1924).
Finally managed to go flying with JJ! Beautiful weather and fantastic hospitality from Sleap Airfield. Enjoy the pictures!
Dear...........
As promised in the letter attached, we have continued to keep GA under consideration and I am pleased to offer the following additional information which I hope provides a little more flexibility for the GA community. I hope you find it useful. Please feel free to share this note with relevant friends and colleagues. The Welsh Government appreciates that this is a difficult and uncertain time for people and businesses. On Friday 29 May, the First Minister for Wales provided an update for the easing of lockdown – the press release to Stay Local to Keep Wales Safe can be found here: https://gov.wales/stay-local-to-keep-wales-safe It is important that the people of Wales and those running a business in Wales review the latest guidance themselves, with consideration to their own specific circumstances. We are asking the public to make their own judgement on whether they consider it appropriate and right, under the current regulations, to undertake a certain activity or journey (this includes General Aviation). I am afraid I cannot advise whether or not general aviation activity is allowed under the current guidance due to the very different and specifically individual circumstances many people and businesses find themselves in, however if you do decide to undertake general aviation activity, you must be able to reasonably justify your actions if challenged. In some cases, bespoke legal advice may need to be sought by the individual or business concerned. Advice on travel and social distancing within Wales can be viewed online, here: https://gov.wales/coronovirus-travel and https://gov.wales/coronavirus-social-distancing-guidance I have added a link to the Frequently Asked Questions section on the Welsh Government website for your information below. https://gov.wales/coronavirus-regulations-guidance#section-39237 – See: ‘Does stay local mean I cannot leave my local area’ and ‘What can I not do’. Also; https://gov.wales/coronavirus-regulations-guidance#section-39241 – See: ‘Can my business be open’ The regulations are reviewed currently on a three weekly basis with the next update scheduled for 19 June. On behalf of Rhydian Ayres Acting Head of Aviation Not much to report other than we are still in partial lockdown. We have managed a couple of maintenance flights over the past month and G-ODIP is now in the hangar on it's Annual Inspection. We have replaced the malfunctioning vacuum driven Attitude Indicator and replaced it for a solid state digital instrument. Hopefully this will last a bit longer than the last one! We have had new brake linings fitted and a new battery ready for the start of the summer.
Solo flying is now permitted in England but no authority will expressly state if it's permitted in Wales or Scotland. Ask 20 people and you will receive 20 different answers! The weather has been fantastic in the UK during the lockdown so its been frustrating not being able to fly. Feels like we are missing out so much. Here a few pictures of Dipper on Annual. Nothing special this month. Most flying has been stoped by the Government due to COVID-19. G-ODIP flew just the once to maintain the engines health as per Lycoming instructions (Minimum 1 Hour every 30 days). Took a few pictures to show what a lockdown does to Airports and Cities.
